Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is recognized as one of the Nation's premier research and development centers. WPAFBs' complex operations range from National defense programs to education to flight operations and logistics management.
WPAFB is home to 7 different Air Force commands, including Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), one of nine (9) major commands Air Force-wide.
Within AFMC is the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC), whose program offices rank as the largest complex of research / management facilities in the United States. The following links provide additional information on a few of the 70+ units housed at WPAFB:
Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) direct advanced research and technical development programs for Air Force / Joint service weapons systems. (NOTE: Of the nine AFRL AFRL directorates, five are based at WPAFB: Propulsion, Materials and Manufacturing, Sensors, Information Technology, and Human Effectiveness.)
