Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is recognized as one of the Nation's premier research, development, and acquisition centers. WPAFBs' complex operations range from National defense programs to education to flight operations and logistics management.
WPAFB is home to HQ Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) and a number of AFMC organizations.
Within AFMC is the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC), whose program offices rank as the largest complex of research / management facilities in the United States. The following links provide additional information on a few of the 70+ units housed at WPAFB:
Responsible for science and technology, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) directs advanced research and technical development programs for Air Force / Joint service weapons systems. Five Directorates are based at WPAFB: Air Vehicles, Materials and Manufacturing, Propulsion, Sensors, and the 711th Human Performance Wing which is a merging of the Human Effectiveness Directorate with the mission organizations of the 311th Human Systems Wing.
Executing the mission of education and academic research, the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) supports National defense programs through an extensive array of graduate and non-graduate educational programs, consulting, and research services.
Proving intelligence support and expertise, the National Air & Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) is the national center for integrated intelligence on aerospace systems, forces, and identifying potential foreign threats.
Assisting our allies, the Air Force Security Assistance Center (AFSAC) formulates and services international agreements with friendly foreign forces to facilitate the access to and acquisition of technology, system maintenance, and support materials consistent with U.S. national security interests.
